Although mango is the king of fruits, yet apple seems to be the emperor here. Almost all means of gradation are employed here. The tonal contrast created in pear and banana are wonderful. The pit of apple and the gleam on pomegranate are effective.

 VEGETABLES 

The effect of light created in these simple vegetables,is remarkable, especially on brinjal, tomato and onion. The cross hatching, the long strokes and the circle created on the bottle gourd are worth noticing.

 A TREE 
A tree is the focal point of this picture. This picture is a fine example of high tonal contrasts created by employing gradation and smudging. Dark tones highlighted by short strokes are impressive.

 "A WOODPECKER" 
A woodpecker has a brightly coloured plumage and strong chisel like bill with which it bores into trees for insects. Take a note of its hairy crown and contrasts created in its wings.
Look at page no 13 in your drawing book "Magic of Pencil" now, shade this picture taking reference from page no 12. Be particularly cautious while shading it's wings (plumage). Use a '4B' pencil in shading the stem of the tree. Try running strokes.

 "A LION AND A LIONESS" 
The royal couple is in mood of relaxation. The mane of lion makes its face much bigger than the lioness. Hatching is done in shading the lion and cross hatching in shading the lioness. Forceful strokes on the stones are evident.

Man keeps pets for food and they also perform various tasks. Pay particular attention to cow, buffalo and goat.They have udders. The dark and light tones are used in shading all these animals except the tones are used in shading all these animals except the cow. Observe the mane of donkey and goat.

A flowerpot placed at an appropriate place in the living room fills the atmosphere with pleasant fragrance.

2. '2B' and '4B' Pencils.
3. Sharpener.
4. Eraser. 

FOUR SIMPLE STEPS TO FOLLOW: 
STEP 1: Take out your drawing book "Magic of pencil".

STEP 2: Take out your '2B' and '4B' pencils, eraser and sharpener.
STEP 3: Open page no 4 in your drawing book "Magic of 
               pencil" and look at this picture carefully taking a
               special note of the design and frills of the
               flowerpot. 
STEP 4: Recreate the spell of shading in this picture by
               shading it patiently with '2B' and '4B' pencils
               where required on page no 5 in your drawing book.

STEP 4: Shade the picture on page 3 in your drawing
               book. Finish the picture by smudging where
               required.
